Dr Pankaj Jha

The Doppler Centre is supervised by vascular surgeon, Dr Pankaj Jha.

Pankaj graduated from medical school in India and then did his basic and specialist surgical training at various centres in the United Kingdom. He received high quality Vascular Surgery training at major centres of excellence at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, Norwich and Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge. He also did a Masters degree in Vascular Ultrasound from Imperial College, London.

He was invited to Australia by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons on a Specialist exchange program to do a Fellowship in Endovascular Surgery at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Brisbane. He extended his Fellowship there to further refine his endovascular skills. He has fellowships in Vascular Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Australia.

Dr Jha joined the Vascular Surgery team at Nambour Hospital in 2015, and now has public appointment at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, Birtinya where he is currently the Director of the Vascular Unit.

He treats a large range of vascular disease conditions including those of the Carotid arteries, Thoracic and Abdominal Aorta, Upper and Lower limb arteries, Varicose veins, Deep venous thrombosis, and Lymphoedema. He also treats conditions like Hyperhidrosis and Thoracic outlet syndromes.

Dr Jha has a keen interest in research and has an academic appointment with Griffith University as an Associate Professor. He is the lead investigator in multiple trials and works closely with the research teams at Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) and Sunshine Coast University. He is the educational supervisor for all junior doctors rotating within the Vascular Surgery department at SCUH.

Meet our Sonographers

Ms Annette O’Connor

Annette graduated in Diagnostic Radiography receiving initial training at The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, she continuing her post graduate studies in Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound at QUT. With further studies, Annette, became a specialist vascular sonographer and received a Diploma in Medical Ultrasound (Vascular).

She is an accredited general and vascular sonographer and a member of the Australian Sonographers Association.

With over 25 years’ experience she has worked in both private specialist vascular laboratories and as a senior sonographer in the Clinical Investigations Unit Vascular Laboratory at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

Annette has been previously responsible for vascular training workshops in private practice and regularly presents educational papers at local, state and national conferences. She also currently supervises trainee vascular sonographers.

Having recently completing a Masters in Health, at Monash University she has a special interest in improving public healthcare services through teaching and improving the quality and skills of sonographers in Vascular Ultrasound.
